SmartWeld

Consistent, automated welds that make temporary fencing stronger, safer and more predictable at scale. SmartWeld uses controlled resistance welding to create joints that outperform traditional manual welds, helping fleets and sites rely on panels day after day.

What Smartweld means

In plain terms

Most barrier and fence panels are still welded by hand, which can add unnecessary material and produces joints that vary with the operator.

SmartWeld replaces this with a controlled resistance-welding process: frame and wire are clamped together and a high electrical current fuses the steel into a single, solid joint. The result is an exceptionally strong, repeatable connection at every contact point in the frame.

Every SmartWeld frame is manufactured this way, so temporary fencing and pedestrian barriers share the same robust construction, whether they’re used on construction sites, events or public works.

Controlled process

From coil to panel

SmartWeld frames are produced on a dedicated automated line where each stage: material preparation, jig positioning, resistance weld and finishing – is controlled as part of a single process.

Wire and tube are aligned in calibrated jigs, then welded under precisely set pressure and current. This removes the variability of manual welding and keeps frames square, mesh spacing consistent and corners tight, run after run.

Measured, not claimed

Test data and QA

SmartWeld performance is verified with routine quality checks. Frames are tested with loads in the region of 1,100 lbs to confirm joint integrity and stiffness, rather than relying on sample testing alone.

Alongside strength testing, dimensional accuracy and coating quality are checked and logged by batch. This traceability helps fleets manage stock across depots and maintain consistent safety and appearance, even as panels age.

Built-in advantages

SmartWeld vs manual MIG

Compared to manually MIG-welded panels, SmartWeld delivers stronger joints, cleaner alignment and a longer working life with fewer failures in the field and better overall value.

Uniform joints

Resistance welding applies controlled current and pressure at every joint, creating a consistent weld around the full contact area. This reduces weak spots and rework that can occur when joints depend on individual welders.

Straighter, cleaner panels

Calibrated jigs hold frames square and maintain regular mesh spacing, so panels stack neatly, clamp together easily and present a more professional appearance on site.

Lower lifecycle cost

Stronger joints and more durable construction lead to fewer damaged panels, fewer call-outs and fewer write-offs. Panels stay in service longer, helping rental fleets and owners reduce total cost over the life of the product.

Up to 70% stronger joints

Testing shows SmartWeld joints can achieve joint strength up to around 70% higher than traditional MIG welds on comparable products, greatly reducing the likelihood of weld failure in demanding use.

Every frame is load-tested

Rather than testing only samples, SmartWeld frames are individually tested to approximately 1,100 lbs of force. This rigorous approach helps ensure consistent performance across every panel in the fleet.

Stronger frames, cleaner finish

Each wire in the mesh is welded directly to the frame, and the mesh is tensioned to keep panels taut and stable. This adds strength, reduces rattle and helps panels look better for longer, with less visible distortion and rust.

Fence barrier & temporary fence products

SmartWeld is at the core of ZND’s temporary fence and barrier systems. By combining stronger joints, consistent manufacturing and thorough testing, SmartWeld gives rental companies and distributors a product that stands out from conventional fencing: more durable, safer in use and better value over time.

For customers, that means panels and barriers that are less likely to fail, maintain their appearance longer and provide reliable protection on construction sites, events and public areas.
