Story

Founded as a wire manufacturer in the Netherlands in 1965, ZND has grown into a global leader in temporary fencing and barrier solutions. Driven by SmartWeld production technology and automated manufacturing plants, ZND’s high-capacity strategy has made the company a highly available supplier of temporary fencing solutions, with great success across Europe.
Following this European success, ZND US was established in 2020 to serve the American market with its own local strategy. The company offers complete temporary fencing systems, including panels, feet, gates, stabilizers, and accessories, with the availability customers need nationwide.

ZND is founded in the south of the Netherlands
Founded in Valkenswaard, the Zuid Nederlandse Draadtrekkerij (ZND) started as a manufacturer of steel wire and reinforcement products. One of the company’s core activities was the production of welded wire mesh using resistance spot welding technology — a manufacturing technique that is still used today in the production of ZND temporary fence panels. Built on strong production expertise and craftsmanship, the company laid the foundation for the international temporary fencing manufacturer ZND has become today.
Dedicated temporary fence production begins in the UK
Although ZND had already been producing temporary fencing products in the Netherlands on a smaller scale, the expansion into the Sheffield area during 1997–1998 marked a major strategic step forward. With a dedicated focus on temporary fence manufacturing, the UK operations became the foundation of ZND’s growth into a leading supplier of temporary fencing solutions.

Increased capacity through automation and SmartWeld® Technology
As demand for temporary fencing continued to grow, ZND invested heavily in automation at the Rotherham factory. The introduction of SmartWeld® technology improved production efficiency, product consistency, and manufacturing speed, while helping deliver shorter lead times to customers across the UK market.
Further automation supports European growth
To keep pace with increasing demand throughout the UK and Western Europe, the Rotherham facility underwent another major automation expansion. Enhanced production capacity and improved product availability strengthened ZND’s position within the temporary fencing industry.
Expansion into Central and Eastern Europe, with new factory in Poland.
ZND opened a manufacturing facility in Opole, Poland, to better serve the growing markets in Central and Eastern Europe. The new location improved logistical flexibility, shortened delivery times, and expanded production capabilities for fence accessories and recycled thermoplastic blocks.

Implementation of a fully automated barrier machine in Rotherham, UK
ZND further expanded its manufacturing capabilities with the implementation of a fully automated barrier machine. This investment enabled more efficient barrier production and strengthened ZND’s ability to supply a broader range of temporary fencing and site safety solutions.

Strengthening production capacity in Western Europe
With demand in Western Europe continuing to rise, ZND invested in its Dutch factory with the installation of a new high-capacity automated fence machine. The investment significantly expanded production capacity while improving delivery performance across the region.

Bringing ZND temporary fencing solutions to North America, with a new factory in Statesville North Carolina
Building on its European success, ZND expanded into the United States to support American rental companies and resellers with high-quality temporary fencing solutions. With the establishment of ZND US in Statesville, North Carolina, the company strengthened its ability to supply the East Coast market through high-capacity manufacturing, reliable availability, and short lead times.
Manufacturing expansion on the US West Coast, to support nation wide availability.
As the North American market continued to develop, ZND opened a manufacturing facility in California. This expansion strengthened service and supply capabilities for customers across the western United States.

Automated production of thermoplastic blocks in the Netherlands
