Replace a Corner Plate

In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to replace a damaged corner plate on a ZND panel. This process brings the frame back to square and ready for service.

Step 1 – Safety First:
Wear your PPE — welding jacket, gloves, and welding helmet — before starting.

Step 2 – Remove the Damaged Plate:
Carefully grind/cut the old welds and lift off the plate without nicking the tubes. Clean and deburr the tube surfaces.

Step 3 – Fit and Square:
Seat the new plate flush against both tubes. Verify a true 90° corner (check with a square/diagonals) and hold position.

Step 4 – Tack and Stitch:
Tack at several points to lock alignment, then stitch-weld the plate to both tubes, alternating sides to control heat and keep the corner flat.

Step 5 – Wrap-Up:
Smooth any sharp spots and recheck that the corner is square and the panel is true. If mesh was cut back for access, reattach it using the Wire-to-Tube or Wire-to-Corner Plate steps above.
